Meet the Therapist: Sarthak Jani, Somerville Wellness Centre

By March 24, 2021No Comments

My name is Sarthak Jani (SJ), and I am a Physiotherapist working in Aged care for the last 5 years. I graduated from University in India and came down to Australia to do a Masters’s in Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy from the University of South Australia. I got to learn a lot of skills in my master’s course which I apply at my workplace.

For me, it is very fulfilling to help residents with my acquired skills and leave them with smiles on their faces and receive positive feedback from their side.

I really like to spend valuable time with each of my residents to better understand them as individuals. I also enjoy listening to them about their past and they love to share their experiences and stories with me. I feel fortunate to become a part of their routine when they are waiting to be seen by the Physiotherapist.

It is a new beginning for me to start working in a Wellness Centre and apply my knowledge in the best possible means to help the residents achieve their functional goals.

In my free time, I like to play sports like Tennis and Badminton. I also try to do my own home exercise regime because I believe that if “I am fit then I can keep others fit”.

  1. What is the best piece of advice you received so far?

Helping/Treating other people with your acquired knowledge is more rewarding and satisfying than any other thing in the world.

  1. Why Physiotherapy?

I always wanted to be in a profession where I can help others and receive a positive feedback. I realised I just enjoy what I do and this feeling keeps me motivated to go further. Being Physiotherapist also challenges an individual to be fit and set an example for others.

  1. Favourite song to get you ready to exercise.

  1.  What are you most looking forward to in 2021?

International borders opening so I can travel again as travelling is something that recharges my energy to keep going.
